Upcoming workshop dates

Through Smartbox Academy, we offer three different types of live workshops. Below, you’ll find the upcoming dates along with details about each workshop. Explore the topics, choose a date that suits you, and learn how to book your spot.

Getting Started with Grid (3 hours) – £25

Getting Started with Grid Live Workshop

Who is this course for?

This course is for made for teachers and education professionals, people who work in care settings, family and friends, or anyone who would like to start using Grid on a Windows platform.

Please note, this workshop is not suitable for Grid for iPad. You will need access to Grid 3 or to download a free trial of Grid 3 on Windows to take part.

The training will be delivered online in small groups and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Course dates are outlined below and tickets cost £25 / $30. At the end of the workshop, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Course outcomes:

  • Know key features and theory behind a selection of symbol and text AAC vocabularies.
  • Be able to make simple edits to a grid set using key features, including personalising text, images and linking pages of grid sets.
  • Understand how to connect and entertain with Accessible Apps.

Simple AAC

Who is this course for?

This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning strategies to support AAC development in nine simple steps. Designed for teachers, education professionals, care workers, family members, and friends, this course is also perfect for students or recently qualified speech and language therapists.

The training will be delivered online in small groups and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Course dates are outlined below and tickets cost £25 / $30. At the end of the workshop, you will receive a certificate of attendance

  • Know the nine Simple AAC strategies.
  • Be able to successfully model with AAC.
  • Understand how to use the strategies in everyday practice.

Access 101: Pointer and Eye Gaze

Who is this course for?

Anyone interested in learning more about how to get the most out of eye gaze and pointer features and settings in Grid for Windows*. This course is for beginners, you might be a professional wanting to increase your knowledge or a caregiver wanting to learn more about the technology used by the clients you support.

*Please note, this workshop is not suitable for Grid for iPad.

Course outcomes:

  • Identify and understand two types of pointers.
  • Be able to rearrange a grid set to support a pointer user.
  • Apply understanding of how to add the eye gaze monitor to support an eye gaze user.

  • Sessions are live and interactive with experienced Smartbox trainers
  • All sessions are accessed via Smartbox Academy

How to book

Watch videos on how to set your time zone and how to book a workshop or follow the step-by-step guide below.

1. Enrol and set your time zone.

Hover over your username → ‘my info’ → ‘time zone’

2. Browse workshops in the Course Catalogue

Look out for courses with titles starting with ‘Live Workshop’ (available times in description)

3. Click ‘Get this course’ and checkout

Select from various payment options. Select from various payment options.

4. Open and ‘Start course’ immediately to register for your chosen date.

Find the workshop on your Learning Dashboard – once in the course, register for your preferred date and view instructors.

5. Check your calendar on the day

In the right column on your dashboard‘ in Smartbox Academy, open the calendar to join the Live Workshop. Find the date and select ‘join’. The workshop will open 15 minutes before the session starts
