Purple Tuesday 2024
Purple Tuesday is a global social movement dedicated to improving the customer experience for disabled people and their families. With 1.8 billion disabled individuals worldwide, representing 17% of the population, there’s an undeniable need for businesses to prioritise accessibility. Launched with the goal of creating better experiences for disabled customers, Purple Tuesday calls upon businesses of all sizes and sectors to make public commitments to enhance their accessibility practices. Participating organisations pledge to introduce at least one new initiative each year to improve the way they cater to disabled customers, making their environments more inclusive and welcoming. Each November, Purple Tuesday culminates in a celebratory day, shining a spotlight on accessibility and inclusion; this year’s day will be held on November 12th. Smartbox is committed to making communication more accessible so that individuals who are non-speaking or have unreliable speech have the tools they need to engage with the world around them. With the support of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), more people can engage with their communities and feel included in public spaces. These tools provide individuals with a voice, allowing them to express their needs in situations where communication might be difficult. AAC can help non-speaking people to: Making these tools available not only benefits the individual using them but also fosters a more empathetic and inclusive environment for everyone in the community. We’re working on a range of initiatives to raise awareness of AAC and resources available to support communities to be more inclusive.
