Welcoming ATtherapy to the Smartbox Family
ATtherapy is a clinical service based in the North of England that provides speech and language therapies, assistive technology support, and mentorship for people with complex communication needs across the UK. They became a part of the CareTech Group of companies in October, which Smartbox also belongs to, but it was clear that closer collaboration between us would unlock exciting opportunities to have meaningful impact in the world of AAC. ATtherapy will remain an independent organisation, continuing to offer their expertise to assist people with diverse speech, language and communication challenges. As before, their technologists will be guided only by what is the best fit for the individual which means they will continue to work in collaboration with other AAC manufactures and support the people who use their products. We envision that ATtherapy joining the Smartbox family will enable us to share valuable insights and key learnings across teams. Our aim is to elevate industry standards so that we can go further to advocate for access to AAC. This approach has been successful in Germany where LogBUK became an independent, clinical arm of REHAVISTA. You can find out more about this partnership in our FAQs. ATtherapy works to support people with a wide range of complex needs and, in particular, those who have had a birth injury or traumatic brain injury. Renowned as leading experts in this field, they cover a wide range of specialities within the field of brain injury and communication. These include Assistive Technology (AT), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), dysphagia, motor speech difficulties, language difficulties and cognitive communication issues. Their offices are based in Manchester and Newcastle, but they serve regions all across the north of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. We hope that these answers will clarify what this next chapter looks like for both organisations. Our ambition is to plug the gaps where there is a lack of awareness and provision to support people who would benefit from access to AAC. We hope that ATtherapy joining the Smartbox group will help to ensure more of that need is met in the UK so that therapy support reaches more people. Yes, ATtherapy remains an independent organisation and will continue to work with other AAC providers. Our teams will collaborate and support each other operationally but will remain separate. No, our AT Specialists and ATtherapy clinicians already work together in varying capacities and so these relationships will remain the same. LogBUK is an independent arm of our team in Germany, offering a range of clinical services – including consultations, therapies, and training. They are a team of 17, with 11 clinicians specialising in the field of AAC, supporting clients of all ages and working closely with therapists and educators across the country. Through Sensory Bloom, they also offer multisensory rooms to complement therapy, and work with professionals to provide multisensory projects in their facilities. These interactive spaces are designed to be a motivating learning environment for all ages and stages of development. We are delighted to share that ATtherapy has joined the Smartbox Family!
