Milly’s journey with Grid Pad 16
Milly is a 24-year-old student who has been using Grid with eye gaze since she was nine years old. Milly uses Grid to express herself, browse the web, access education and control her environment independently. Earlier this year, Milly began testing Grid Pad 16 with the Vida eye gaze camera. In the video below, get to know Milly and see how Grid Pad 16 empowers her daily life, whether she’s studying at college or staying connected with friends. Over time, Milly has built her literacy skills and transitioned from using symbol-based AAC to Fast Talker, a powerful text-based solution in Grid. Her journey to literacy has unlocked new opportunities, from progressing with her studies to using her phone and connecting with others through social media. You may have noticed in Milly’s video that she uses a male voice named Graham to communicate. It might not be what people expect, but it’s the voice she connects with. Milly has tried other voices over the years but always comes back to Graham. Every AAC user has a unique relationship with their voice, and for many, it becomes a powerful part of how they express personality, identity, and independence. -Saffron, AAC specialist teacher One of Milly’s favourite features of the new Grid Pad 16 is its large, high-resolution screen. A larger screen offers significant benefits for many users, providing more space to work, create, and enjoy content. The larger screen gives Milly the option to view multiple programs side by side, making multitasking more efficient, whether she’s working on documents for college, using her communication grid sets, or exploring creative projects. It also enhances her downtime, offering a more immersive experience when watching TV shows or using accessible entertainment apps. Thanks to the daylight-bright display and anti-glare coating, Milly can use her device comfortably in all environments, whether she’s in a bright room at college or outside on campus. Milly, Grid Pad 16 product tester Milly is currently studying performing arts, and Grid Pad 16 helps her stay fully involved in her classes. She uses a personalised grid set to choreograph group routines and give instructions to fellow students. Music also plays a key role in Milly’s studies, and with eye gaze accessible software like Look Lab, she can experiment with sound during lessons. Milly’s journey is a powerful example of what’s possible when the right tools and support come together. Over time, she’s taken more control over her communication and independence. Her feedback has helped shape Grid Pad 16 for others, and we’re excited to see what she does next!Empowering communication, creativity and independence
