Introducing Smartbox Communication Boards
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new Smartbox Communication Boards, designed to make communication more inclusive and accessible in public spaces across the UK. In partnership with Widgit, we have developed symbol-based boards tailored for a variety of settings. We believe that AAC isn’t just for people with additional communication needs – communication boards remove barriers, so everyone can express themselves and take part. With five unique designs using Widgit Symbols, our boards are adaptable for schools, playgrounds, libraries, medical settings, and sensory spaces, supporting our mission to bring AAC everywhere. Smartbox Communication Boards have been designed using Super Core grid sets created by SLT Daisy. With a range of material and size options, our boards can also be personalised for objects, equipment, or locations specific to where you would like to install your board. St Rose’s School have installed the first Smartbox Communication Board in their Sensory Garden. The school provides education, therapy and day and residential care for children and students aged 2 to 25, with a wide range of disabilities. The Sensory Garden is an engaging and inclusive space, where everyone should be able to participate, and talk about what they can see, feel, and explore. The board design has been customised for their setting, to help children and teachers connect as they experience the garden. They can be installed in a variety of public spaces to support individuals with communication needs. Wherever people gather, communication boards can help create connection and inclusion, some ideal locations include: Schools and Educational Settings – Supporting students who use AAC and promoting inclusivity within classrooms, playgrounds, common areas, and sensory spaces. Parks and Outdoor Spaces – Encouraging social interactions and play for children and adults with different communication needs. Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities – Assisting patients in expressing their needs and communicating with medical professionals. Libraries and Community Centres – Providing an accessible way for individuals to request help or engage with services. Shopping Centers and Public Transport Hubs – Helping non-speaking individuals navigate public spaces and interact with staff. To help you get started with how to order, install, and use Smartbox Communication Boards, you can explore a range of videos on our website, request a quote, or read FAQs on the Smartbox Hub.
